It is reported that Chelsea could consider including Levi Colwill in a 'partial swap' deal for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Colwill spent the 2022/23 season at Brighton on loan and the 20-year-old made the most of his chances at the Seagulls.
The centre-back has only made 22 appearances for the Premier League side, but he has barely made a mistake and he has forged a strong partnership with Lewis Dunk.
The youngster's future is in question this summer as a lot has changed at Chelsea over the past year.
But Brighton clearly want to keep him ahead of his Europa League debut and they have made a £30m bid for the defender turned down. Fabrizio Romano now reports that "Brighton is currently preparing a record new bid for Colwill" and that an offer of "nearly £40 million" will be "sent shortly".
His report claims that Chelsea have 'no intention of selling' Colwill as he is 'part of their long-term plans', but this was refuted by Football Insider.
They believe 'Chelsea could include defender Colwill in a player plus cash deal for Brighton star midfielder Caicedo'.
The Seagulls are said to be 'demanding £80-85m for Caicedo after signing a new long-term contract earlier this year'.
The report adds:
"A reliable source has told Football Insider that Caicedo would be interested in a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer - and it is believed he has an agreement in place with Brighton that would allow him to leave if he is told. suitable offer."
Caicedo attracted interest from Arsenal in January. The Gunners have had several rejected offers for the midfielder and he remains on their shortlist in the summer.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Caicedo had agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of a possible move to the Emirates.
TalkSPORT presenter and Arsenal supporter Laura Woods believes Brighton "would be willing" to swap a part involving Colwill and Caicedo.
"Clearly Arsenal were the team that pushed him in January. He signed a new contract in January and part of the reason Brighton wanted to keep him at the time was because they expected more clubs to come. for him this summer," Woods said on talkSPORT. "I think it's because Arsenal are hiding in the back. Brighton's trump card could be their interest in Levi Colwill.
“We know that last week Chelsea turned down an offer of £30 million for the young defender. Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep him, but if they can somehow facilitate a loan or swap a part involving Caicedo, I think Brighton will be willing to accept that.
