Man United are linked with the signing of much-loved Chicago Fire youngster Brian Gutierrez.
Manchester United are 'interested' in signing highly-rated Chicago Fire midfielder Brian Gutierrez ahead of the official opening of the summer transfer window next Wednesday.
That's according to a report from the Daily Mail, which claims United, who plan to strengthen their midfield options this summer, have preferred the 19-year-old star. The Reds are said to be determined to sign a new central midfielder this summer and are keen to lower the average age of players in the role.
United, despite signing Christian Eriksen and Casemiro last summer, still want to add quality to their midfield this summer and have attempted to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the England international but are yet to agree a deal with Chelsea.
However, their interest in Gutierrez doesn't appear to have affected their interest in Mount or any other big-name midfielder. The ace Chicago Fire, who tends to function as an attacking midfielder, can be seen as a potential signing for the future, as opposed to the here and now.
However, United are not the only ones interested in the USA Under-20 international, as RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested. Scottish giants Rangers were also linked with his signing. However, the report suggests Leipzig or Dortmund are more likely to win the race for his signature as Gutierrez could find it 'difficult' to get a work permit in the UK.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are said to be 'interested' in signing United captain Harry Maguire. That is according to a report from The Telegraph, which says the Londoner has 'registered' an interest in the defender, although new head coach Ange Postecoglou only officially started working at the club on 1 May. Seven.
Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City four years ago, faces the prospect of being kicked out of Old Trafford this summer after falling into form. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have formed United's first-choice centre-back partnership of the season and Victor Lindelof recently replaced Martinez as he was absent through injury. Although Spurs are said to be interested in the prospect of signing Maguire, the report says they 'have not yet said' whether they will make an official offer for his signature. Spurs are set to face an eventful summer after appointing a new boss.
Furthermore, the report claims that Spurs' interest in Maguire is completely unrelated to United's interest in signing Harry Kane. The latter has been the Reds' main target this summer to bolster their forward options.
