Barcelona plotting move for 21-year-old Brazilian right-back in 2024 .

Barcelona has been struggling to find a suitable replacement for right-back Dani Alves ever since his departure in 2016. Despite trying several players in that position, including Nelson Semedo, Aleix Vidal, Sergi Roberto, Sergino Dest, and Hector Bellerin, the club has been unable to find a long-term solution. In the 2022/23 season, manager Xavi had to resort to using Jules Kounde as a makeshift right-back, and although the Frenchman performed well, he does not wish to continue in that role.

As a result, signing a new right-back has become a top priority for Barcelona as they head into the summer transfer window. According to a report by Joaquim Piera of SPORT, the club is considering a short-term fix by bringing in Manchester City's outcast Joao Cancelo on loan for the upcoming season. However, their long-term plan is to acquire AS Monaco's Brazilian right-back, Vanderson, in the summer of 2024.

Barcelona has been monitoring Vanderson since last year when they made an inquiry about him. However, Monaco quoted a hefty €60 million fee and had no intention of selling the young defender. Deco, who is expected to become the club's sporting director soon, had recommended Vanderson's signing in early 2022, but Barcelona reacted too late, and Monaco beat them to his capture.

Vanderson, who is only 21 years old, had an impressive season in 2022/23, featuring in 39 games, scoring one goal, and providing five assists. His playing style and abilities align with Barcelona's preferences, making him an attractive target for the club. The plan is to approach Monaco for his signing next year.

However, Barcelona will need to be cautious of competition from Manchester United, who are reportedly interested in signing Vanderson this summer. To counter this, Barcelona would have to convince Vanderson to remain at Monaco for one more year before making their move. It remains to be seen whether this strategy will be successful for the Catalans.

In conclusion, Barcelona's ongoing struggle to find a suitable right-back may be alleviated in the short term by securing a loan deal for Joao Cancelo from Manchester City. However, their long-term target is Vanderson from AS Monaco, whom they plan to approach in the summer of 2024. The club will have to contend with interest from Manchester United, and their strategy may involve convincing Vanderson to stay at Monaco for an additional year. The success of Barcelona's plans will be intriguing to observe in the coming months.
