Apple had initially intended iOS 17 to be a "tuning" update that was primarily concerned with addressing bugs and enhancing efficiency, but it will now also include some "nice-to-have" enhancements.  However, Apple has devoted a significant portion of its resources to creating the XR OS operating system, which is intended to run on his AR/VR platform, so it's not as fundamental and as the better lock screen we saw in iOS 16.   There is no such thing as a "tent pole function" that has been designed.  There are several exciting innovations to look forward to from Apple, but there are still significant bug fixes and performance improvements coming. Apple formally unveiled iOS 17 on June 5, 2023, although the first stable release is not anticipated until later this year. The release of iOS 17 is anticipated for September 2023, the same month that the iPhone 15 series debuts.

Initial rumors claimed that iOS 17 would have less features than previous year's version. Earlier this year, we released a significant update to iOS 16; later this year, we will release a number of updates to iOS 17. Some noteworthy updates are coming, including sleep mode and FaceTime video voicemail.

The Most Important New Features and Upgrades in iOS 17.

In the event that a call is missed, FaceTime users can now use video voicemail. Additionally, Live Voicemail transcribes messages in real-time so that you may see who phoned even if you didn't answer. Your family and friends will be informed through the check-in feature when you safely arrive home. With this, you can be alerted when you encounter obstacles about details like the battery's remaining capacity and your current location.  A new feature of AirDrop called NameDrop enables you to quickly swap data and files between two iPhones while also launching SharePlay experiences. This year's iPhone release of the Journal app provides individualized writing prompts and suggestions to help you keep a journal of your activities.

In essence, standby mode transforms your iPhone into a smart display that offers information at a glance along with voice controls and simple-to-read websites.  Soon, the "Hey Siri" command will just be "Siri," and Apple's voice assistant will support sequential commands without requiring repeated utterances of the wake word.  Offline downloads will soon be supported by Apple Maps, allowing you to navigate without an online connection.
