The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who is reportedly ready to return to his previous club, may have to go elsewhere if the La Liga giants don't sell a number of first-team players to raise the necessary money.Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, is another option, according to The Athletic.The Florida-based team is presently coordinating with Major League Soccer to finalize the specifics of a prospective Messi deal.

 

According to an unnamed source, MLS executives have already been notified that the Argentina captain won't be joining Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia and will instead choose either Barcelona or Inter Miami as his next club.

This summer, MLS, Adidas, and Apple are all vying to lure Lionel Messi to the United States.


According to reports, Adidas, one of the league's major corporate sponsors, has proposed a profit-sharing arrangement in which the forward would share in any rise in revenue as a result of his participation in Major League Soccer.

The MLS and Apple have also spoken about giving Messi a portion of the money made by new MLS subscribers. According to reports about season-long commercial propositions, MLS executives are reportedly willing to give Messi the choice to buy a stake in a league team once he retires.

The forward, however, is excited about the possibility of a fantastical return to Barcelona.

On Monday morning, Barcelona president Joan Laporta met with Messi's father and agent, Jorge, to discuss the potential of a free transfer.

The 65-year-old acknowledged following the meeting that his son  is eager to return to the Nou Camp.
