In a major blow for FC Barcelona supporters, Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo is reporting that the Blaugrana have almost ruled out the signing of club legend Lionel Messi as they admit it is ‘very difficult’ to make the transfer happen.
Messi’s future has been the talk of the town for a long time now as links to Barcelona, Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, and Inter Miami of the MLS continue to persist.
Chances of a return to Barcelona looked very likely after Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, had a meeting with club president Joan Laporta at the latter’s residence earlier this week.
However, the lack of a formal offer from the Blaugrana is seemingly causing concerns within the Argentine’s camp.
Even though Barça have received La Liga’s approval over their economic viability plan, the club need to execute it and make some sales to guarantee Messi’s signing and registration.
As such, the La Liga champions are not at all optimistic about their chances of bringing the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner back to the club. Sources from within the entity have told Mundo Deportivo that signing Messi at this point is “very difficult”.
Instead, Inter Miami are understood to be the best placed to sign the 35-year-old global superstar this summer.
The MLS outfit are not only proposing a lucrative contract to Messi but are also offering a percentage of profits from their major partners Adidas and Apple, while also giving him the option of buying a stake in a club once his playing career is over.
A decision from Messi and his camp could arrive soon and as things stand, it seems like the former Barcelona captain is slipping away from the Catalans’ grasp and could end up in the United States of America come July.
