Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani submitted his final proposal for the purchase of Manchester United on Wednesday afternoon, with a deadline set for Friday.
The Qatari investor continues to be one of the two bidders for the Old Trafford club, competing against British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the now several-month-old drama.
However, Sheikh Jassim submitted the bid directly to the Glazer family, the club's owners, and Raine Group, the American bankers overseeing the protracted dispute, in a significant power move to gain control of the Premier League powerhouse.
According to Mail Sport, the Sheikh has also assured those involved that he will continue to cooperate through Friday. After that, the bid will be accepted, but no more discussions will take place.
But who precisely is the banker from Qatar? How much money is he worth? In the hunt to purchase Manchester United, has he now surpassed Ratcliffe?
HBJ, who once served as the chair of the Qatari Investment Authority (QIA), has also been involved in the management of Paris Saint-Germain. The Qatar Sports Authority (QSA), which owns PSG, is owned by the QIA.
Although UEFA prohibits someone or something from owning more than one team in a single competition, Sheikh Jassim makes sure he is autonomous from the QIA and hence PSG, theoretically resolving that issue.
Sheikh Jassim is reputed to have been a lifelong supporter of Manchester United. He apparently sports the team's jersey during his weekly five-a-side games and has gone to many games as a fan.
However, there is only one image of Jassim wearing a United jersey, and a spokeswoman for his bid was "unable to provide" any information.
What is the wealth of Sheikh Jassim?
The solution to this question isn't the simplest, though. We don't have a lot of Sheikh Jassim information to work with, as was already mentioned.
According to Forbes, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani has a net worth of $1.2 billion (£892 million).
His family is estimated to be wealthy about £275 billion as a whole.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the head of the royal family, is estimated to be worth over £1.6 billion.
What has changed with the sale of Manchester United?
Since Mail Sport made public the initial bid's specifics in February, Sheikj Jassim has submitted five bids. It is still for complete control of the club and is rumored to involve a sizeable additional payment.
