According to Spanish newspaper Sport via Metro, Barcelona have asked Monaco right-back Vanderson to shun a move to Manchester United this summer and wait to join Barcelona next year.
The report on Metro adds: “Xavi wants to strengthen his back-line this summer by bringing in an orthodox right-back, having used central defender Jules Kounde out of position for most of this season.
“According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Vanderson has been picked out by Barca’s recruitment team as the ideal signing but there is just one problem: they cannot afford him right now.
“The Liga champions are still grappling with Financial Fair Play regulations despite offloading some of their biggest earners and need to sell several players if they are going to afford new additions.
“A move for Vanderson, therefore, will have to wait until next summer with Monaco demanding a £52.6million transfer fee but Barcelona are conscious of rival interest from Manchester United.
“The Red Devils are also big fans of the Brazilian, though have other transfer priorities they want to focus on first – namely, wrapping up a deal for Chelsea contract rebel Mason Mount and securing a new striker.
“Once the midfield and attack have been strengthened, United are then expected to focus on upgrading the right-back position and are keen on Vanderson.
“But Sport claim Barcelona’s hierarchy are trying to convince the 21-year-old to snub any approaches from the Premier League and want him to stay at Monaco for one more season.
“In a year’s time, Barca hope to be in a position to start splashing the cash and will renew their efforts to sign him.”
