Ange Postecoglou's selection by Tottenham may represent a marriage made in heaven after a string of unions that were "made in hell."
The doomsayers will point to Postecoglou's transfer from Celtic and claim that Scottish football is second-class and that he is below Tottenham, but that is utter rubbish.
Postecoglou seems to have all the content you would anticipate from your ordinary Australian — entrenched in decency, hard effort, and a no-frills mentality. I hate to generalize about Australians, but I can't help it. He is a balanced manager who won't make everything into a spectacle. He is also calm, focused, and motivated.
Some may argue that he wasn't the club's top pick, but Mauricio Pochettino wasn't either, and that turned out okay.
And following the mistakes made by Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte as managers, Daniel Levy may have found the ideal candidate.
But there's a risk involved. Levy has come under pressure from a vocal minority of Tottenham supporters, and if he makes a mistake here, their discontent may spread like wildfire.
Spurs will suffer greatly if he splits with Postecoglou or if his most recent appointment is met with the same criticisms as previous managers.
In the dugout, Mourinho and Conte acted like spoiled brats, a pair of prima donnas who appeared to think they were too big for the job and who spent the most of their time complaining about something or other.
