After Lionel Messi stated earlier today that he would be joining Inter Miami CF instead of his old club Barcelona, Barcelona responded with a sour statement wishing him well.

There has been much talk about the 35-year-old's upcoming departure, with the Argentine World Cup winner also being connected with a massive 2 billion deal to join Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal.

However, he revealed today that he will be transferring to Inter Miami in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, as his historic 35 million-per-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire at the end of June.

Messi declared today that he will be joining Inter Miami rather than returning to Bara.

Following his announcement, his previous club, Barcelona, with whom he spent 21 years and won 32 championships, released a somewhat scathing statement wishing him well and insinuating that he was moving to a league "with fewer demands and less pressure."

In a statement from the club, they said: 'On Monday, June 5, Jorge Messi, the player's father and representative, informed Club president Joan Laporta of the player's decision to join Inter Miami, despite having been given a proposal from Bara, taking into account the desire of both FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi for him to once again don the blaugrana.

President Laporta acknowledged and accepted Messi's decision to compete in a league with fewer requirements, away from the media attention and pressure he has been under lately.

"Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to collaborate to promote a suitable tribute from Bara supporters to honor a footballer who has been, is, and always will be cherished by Bara."

President Laporta and the 35-year-old's father, Jorge, who also serves as his agent, previously spoke about the possibility of returning to Barcelona.

After the discussions, he declared, "Leo wants to return to Barcelona, and I'd love to see him back to Barca." "Barca move is definitely a possibility."

The World Cup champion scored 672 goals in 778 games in all competitions, winning four Champions League medals and ten LaLiga championships.

However, several supporters have criticized the club's assertion that it was "disrespectful."

United didn't even disrespect Cristiano Ronaldo in this manner, according to one supporter, who also questioned how they could do this to their greatest player in history.

There are various ways to honor the best athlete in history.
