But while Man United are still a good candidate to sign the South Korean striker, Newcastle are also watching him.
SunSport understands that Kim's representatives held talks with the Toon Chiefs at St James' Park during one of their last home games of the season.
Magpies boss Eddie Howe is on the hunt for a new centre-back to compete with Fabian Schar and Sven Botman in next season's Champions League. Jamaal Lascelles is not in Howe's long-term plans and could be sold this summer as he enters the final year of his contract.
Kim, 26, will decide his future next month after he returns to the country after completing his military service.
Nicknamed 'The Beast', he just won the Serie A and was named the best defender in the league.
But Kim is said to want to move to Prem after just one season in Italy after signing from Fenerbache last summer.
The Korean player is also considered by Ten Hag as someone who can compete with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Kim has enjoyed a fantastic campaign with Napoli this season in both Serie A and the Champions League.
The defender has totaled 2 goals and 2 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions this season.
Newcastle's target is one of the key figures in Luciano Spalletti, who helped the Partenopei win their first Serie A title since 1990.
