Lionel Messi took the football world by storm on Wednesday night when he announced David Beckham-owned Inter Miami as his next destination. Speaking to Spain's Mundo Deportivo and Sport, the Argentine great revealed his decision, claiming he could not return to Barcelona. It comes after months of speculation about the 2022 FIFA World Cup-winning captain choosing to move to Saudi Arabia in a lucrative deal.
Interestingly, Messi seems to have chosen Inter Miami over Saudi money and Barca memorabilia. That said, here's a look at the possible reasons behind the 35-year-old's amazing move to the United States. According to Marca, a report by The Athletic has revealed 3 keys to Lionel Messi signing with MLS.
Lionel Messi Will Share Benefits Of MLS Season Pass
The report claims that MLS and Apple have offered Messi a deal that will allow him to share in the profits generated by new MLS Season Pass subscribers on Apple TV+. MLS has reached an agreement with Apple that will allow the tech giant to broadcast all of the league's matches globally for 10 years on Apple TV+. The deal is signed for a decade in 2022 in exchange for $250 million per season. The MLS Season Pass is currently available for $14.99/month or $99/year. The cost is reduced for Apple TV+ subscribers, who pay $12.99/month and $79 for the whole year. It should be noted that a basic Netflix account without ads costs $9.99 in the US.
Adidas continues to collaborate with Lionel Messi
Adidas is said to have offered to share some of the profits made when Messi came to the US Soccer League in sales. Adidas has been the sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion since he was young. In addition, the brand wears apparel for all 29 MLS teams.
