Former Rangers striker Mark Hateley thinks his old team has to add two scorers to James Tavernier or else they won't be able to stop Celtic from controlling Scottish football.
Tavernier was the team's top league scorer last season with 16 goals, while his 18 goals throughout all competitions were a tie with Antonio Colak's total.
Fashion Sakala and the recently retired Alfredo Morelos each scored 12, but Kyogo Furuhashi, Celtic's key scorer, contributed 34 goals as the team won its seventh championship in as many years.
To win anything, according to Hateley, "we need two strikers who can score more goals than a right-back." That's all there is to it.
To compete at the highest level, we need forwards who can score more goals than the captain. And that is not inexpensive.
"I believe you need to add three credible strikers who can all contribute," the coach said.
After Michael Beale's arrival, Colak only managed four goals and battled to stay fit, while Sakala alternated between playing in the center and the wing. Colak's future is uncertain.
Hateley said of Sakala, "He's a young boy so he will grow over time but if you work with good goal scorers, your game comes on a lot quicker. He would probably start playing more on the team, in my opinion.
Adding two strikers to the team is now crucial. Since Alfredo left the team, it's now simpler because it was never easy to play another player alongside Alfredo. He used to be the lone wolf with players circling him, but Michael is now able to play with two forwards in various formations.
Hateley does not necessarily think that Ange Postecoglou leaving Celtic Park for Tottenham presents Rangers with a chance.
You may say that, but I don't believe that anything will change with the system that Celtic now has in place.
"I don't know if Ange can take players with him, but what he's done has been absolutely phenomenal, and I really appreciate the board's confidence in his approach," said Ange.
