DAVIDO STIRS UP CONVERSATION LABELING BURNABOY AS A ?NEW CAT? IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY

Nigerian Afrobeat singer born David Adeleke is currently facing serious criticisms on social media after a video of him went viral. Davido, wizkid, and Burnaboy are the top three biggest artists from Nigeria, however, they do not seem to have a good relationship with each other, and the least chance they get, they throw shades on each other. The whole beginning of ongoing chaos on the popular micro-blogging platform Twitter began when an interview with Davido began trending. In the video, Davido talks about how he was the first big act to come out of Nigeria along with Wizkid in an era where there was no solid social media relevance. Going forward he added that, he is now happy for how far he has come and added that, he is also happy that new acts like Burnaboy and Rema and others are also making it big, this sparked the whole backlash.

Fans of Burnaboy didn’t like Davido’s choice of words of calling Burnaboy a new emerging act and took to the comments section to vent out their dissatisfaction. A few of them are highlighted below;

@Ssaasquatch

“Burna that has been in this game since 2013 is

who they're calling new cat? I love Davido to bits

but come on”.

@sakpo0007

“I said this same thing in the morning, Burna Boy is

good but you can't compare an artiste who blew 5

years ago courtesy of the internet & streaming

advantages to artists who have been making Hits

when there was nothing like Playlists or Streaming

Farms Kudos to Wiz, Davido & Olamide, most especially Big Wiz cause he's still kinging both in the streaming and non-streaming era”.

@bigbrutha_•

“At the time wiz and Davido were mainstream. Burna

was still confused about if his stage name was

Burnaranking, Burna lee, Burna boy”.

@OleleSalvador

“Lol, what's the problem here? Davido is right. Davido

& Wizkid saw global successes before Burna, so

Wassop?”.

@Honiitel •

“Not mentioning Olamide in this conversation

despite the impact he has made In Afrobeat since

way back is not fair at all. Tagging Burn alongside Fireboy and other new school artists is disrespectful. C'mon man, that man has taken Afrobeat to places to be disrespected like this”.
