Mauricio Pochettino's quest of one of the 'greatest in the world' may have a secret weapon.

Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager of Chelsea, is hoping to acquire a striker this summer, and one of the players being considered is Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.

Real Madrid will battle with Chelsea for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez this summer, but the Blues may have a secret weapon.

Chelsea have selected Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, after a poor season in which they finished 12th in the Premier League despite spending more than £500 million on new acquisitions such as Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Raheem Sterling.

One of their main problems was a lack of goals, with only Bournemouth, Southampton, Everton, and Wolves scoring less goals in the Premier League. Kai Havertz led the team in scoring with seven goals, while attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appeared in just four Premier League games.

Thomas Tuchel, who worked with Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund, signed him from Barcelona to lead the line, but he only played one game under the German before being fired and replaced by Graham Potter.

As a result, Chelsea is anxious to bolster their striker options this summer, and Martinez is said to be top on their list of targets. Pochettino is reported to be a great fan of the Inter striker and thinks he's one of the best in the world.

Real Madrid is also interested in signing Martinez as a replacement for Karim Benzema, who has signed a lucrative contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. Chelsea, on the other hand, may have a hidden weapon in their pursuit of the Argentine forward in the form of Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku spent the previous season on loan at Inter Milan, and he has a great relationship with Martinez both on and off the field. They are firm.

They are pals, with Lukaku just attending Martinez's wedding, and they have 28 and 14 goals for Inter in all competitions, respectively.

The Belgian international will return to Chelsea for pre-season and will discuss his future with Pochettino. If those go well, Lukaku and Martinez may be able to rekindle their partnership at Stamford Bridge.

Inter president Beppe Marotta has confessed that signing Lukaku permanently this summer is improbable, telling Radio Rai: "Romelu loves the shirt he wears, he is very comfortable at Inter." This desire of his to be with us is of basic importance.

"However, he is on loan until June 30." He will return to Chelsea, and we have no idea what will happen on a technical level there. We're currently looking out the window."
