In an effort to compete with Inter Miami's signing of Lionel Messi, Sporting Kansas City is unlikely to try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo again.

Peter Vermes, the SKC coach, claims that.

After Ronaldo departed Manchester United in the latter part of last year, Sporting became interested in acquiring the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

The MLS team, however, was unable to strike a deal that would match the offer Ronaldo received from Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

This week, it was made official that Messi would be joining SKC's opponents in the league, Miami, but Vermes dismissed the possibility of bringing in Ronaldo.

No, he has a substantial sum of money secured for the next two years. The transfer fee, in my opinion, would be a little out of our price range," he commented prior to SKC's encounter with Austin FC.

"When we were considering making that trade, the possibility of Messi moving to Miami was on our minds since there was speculation of him doing so after the World Cup. There are many different things in life that could have, should have, or would have been. It's fantastic that [Messi] is coming.

Vermes gushed about how happy he is that Messi is joining MLS and likened the Argentine to NBA legend Michael Jordan.

"I thought David Beckham had an incredible impact on our league when he came to the league, and the notoriety that got worldwide, he helped achieve a new bar in how people perceived our league," he remarked.

The fact that Messi, the finest player in the world, is playing in the league in which you are involved is fantastic. It's a fantastic chance for our league in many respects, and it's excellent for the fans as well. When Michael Jordan plays, it's like seeing a basketball player from another planet and it was very tremendous performance
