After returning to the English Football League, Wrexham has re-signed Ben Foster to a one-year deal.
The 40-year-old former England goalkeeper was lured out of retirement in March to join the club's aspirational up-leveling strategy by co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
His outstanding stoppage-time penalty save against fellow promotion contenders Notts County in April, which kept Wrexham ahead 3-2 and propelled them to the top of the standings, was one of the National League's highlights of the season.
With one game left, Phil Parkinson's team won the championship, ending their 15-year spell in the fifth division.
Foster, who was most recently a member of the Watford squad that competed in the Premier League, said on the club's official website: "At the end of last season it was evident that I enjoyed being at the club, I loved being part of the team, and everything that Wrexham stands for."I'd decided at the end of last season that I wanted to do it, because it feels like home. The supporters were so welcoming, Phil Parkinson is brilliant, (assistant manager) Steve Parkin is top notch, I adore (goalkeeping coach) Aidan Davison to pieces, and the co-chairmen are out of this world. I've never been settled in so quickly after joining a football team.
18 years after winning the LDV Vans Trophy while on loan from Stoke in 2005, Foster won his second trophy for the club by keeping three clean sheets in eight appearances.
"We're thrilled that Ben has signed for the coming season," stated Parkinson.We are all looking forward to working with him again next season because we all noticed the influence he made not only on the field but also in and around the training facility.Following their promotion from the National League, Wrexham's first-team coach, David Jones, does not see why the club cannot aspire to Premier League status.
