Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, has refuted rumors that he assisted Sheikh Jassim in his effort to purchase Manchester United from the Glazer family.
According to reports that surfaced earlier this week, the Glazers had gotten in touch with the Qatari national Al-Khelaifi to ask for his assistance persuading Sheikh Jassim to up his offer for the club. Since then, the Nine Two Foundation has made what was referred to as its fifth and last offer.
On social media, worries about Al-Khelaifi, PSG, and the Qatari government's probable involvement in Sheikh Jassim's bid quickly grew, but the PSG president has sought to clarify the situation.
In his words, "Paris Saint-Germain is my club, in my heart, and I have nothing to do with Manchester United," he declared during a gathering of the European Clubs' Association. "I offered my input, and now supposedly I'm in charge of the transaction; this is all a farce.
"I find it amusing. Yes, I am a Qatari. When people ask me for my opinion, I will undoubtedly give it to them; this is what they do. Not just Manchester United, but anyone, is what I'm getting at. I will share my knowledge with them. There you go.
By admitting that he recently spoke with a group of investors who were considering buying two English teams, Al-Khelaifi emphasized his openness to offer his counsel to potential purchasers.
"I'm not going to mention them, but one was small, and the other was big," he remarked. "I have no idea who the man was. But I gave him my viewpoint.
Sheikh Jassim set a deadline of Friday, which has since passed, for his offer to purchase 100% of United's stock and value the team at roughly £6 billion.
The deal competes with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's bid, which would keep the Glazers on the board and is anticipated to be more lucrative in the long run.
