In both the Premier League and the Champions League, Haaland had the most goals.

Erling Haaland scored 52 goals in his first season at Manchester City.

The international player from Norway concluded with just one goal in eight games, but he had already more than justified his low $51 million asking price.

The PA news agency takes a close look at his impressive campaign in Premier League

Even after accounting for the earlier 42-game seasons, Haaland's 36 goals set a Premier League record.

Before Haaland broke the records, Mohamed Salah's 32 was the highest score for a 38-game season, beating Andy Cole and Alan Shearer's previous high of 34.

His hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United helped him to 13 goals in those games and 18 in a 10-match scoring streak in all competitions. He scored in seven successive league games from August to October, his third to his ninth appearances in the campaign.

While he also had five doubles - against West Ham, Brighton, Leeds, Southampton, and Leicester - and scored in 23 of his 35 games, his fourth treble against Wolves in January left him one short of Shearer's record of five in a season.

He scored against 16 different opponents; Chelsea, the only team to stop him in two league games, Liverpool, and Brentford were the exceptions

Champions  League

Haaland, who had scored 23 goals in 19 games for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund prior to moving to Manchester, has continued in same vein.

With the exception of a scoreless first half run-out against his former club in Germany, Pep Guardiola could afford to mainly rest his star player for the return matches after he scored twice in the group stage against Sevilla and FC Copenhagen and one goal against Dortmund.

He did not contribute much in the first leg against RB Leipzig, which ended in a draw, but more than made up for it in the second leg, scoring five goals in one game to tie the competition record as City triumphed 7-0 and 8-1 overall.
