On Saturday night, City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 to win their first major European championship, giving Pep Guardiola his third triumph of the season.

After winning the Premier League and FA Cup earlier this season, they thereby completed the treble.

They moved up the list of the nation's most successful clubs with the victory in Istanbul, becoming just the second team to accomplish so after rivals Manchester United in 1999.

With 26 major championships under their belts, City has surpassed the Blues' 25 and is now closely pursuing Arsenal's 31.

Before being taken over in 2008, the club had few trophies, but then success started to flow thick and fast.

The club has won five Premier League championships in the past six years under Guardiola, after previously winning the trophy under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini.

However, since they were originally looked into for financial violations, they have won 10 significant awards, including a Champions League, four Premier Leagues, and five domestic cups.

The club has maintained their innocence since the first complaint while being under investigation for 115 alleged violations of financial fair play.

The allegations cover alleged violations that occurred between 2009 and 2018, a nine-year span.

Pep Guardiola has promised to stay with the team for the upcoming season but has urged for the probe to be over quickly.

When Chelsea defeated City in the Champions League final in 2021, they earned their final trophy. Since then, though, their performance has dipped, and they still seem far from winning another title.

Despite Manchester United closing the gap this season after winning the Carabao Cup, Liverpool still holds the top spot with 45 titles.

Following their Champions League victory, Manchester City has surpassed Chelsea to become the fourth-most successful team in England.

The fact that Chelsea has more European Championships than Man City still stands, and the last time City lost in a championship game was when Chelsea defeated them in the UCL final.
