Liverpool wasted no time getting into action before the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp shares Liverpool's 4-4 draw against Southampton

Liverpool have signed Alexis Mac Allister, a player compared to Paul Scholes, and Jurgen Klopp could go further this summer by signing his own David Beckham. He can also do it on the cheap, as the right stars for the target in question - James Ward-Prowse - leave Southampton for an acceptable fee.

The Saints are ready to do everything they can to make sure that doesn't happen. Reports say they slapped Ward-Prourage for a whopping £50m after being relegated from the Premier League. For a player who is about to turn 29 and is almost certain to leave instead of playing in the Championship, it looks like Southampton will have to lower their asking price.

The Daily Mail say Liverpool are willing to be patient on that basis, with a speculative £25m offer sure to offer excellent value for a player of Ward-Pr's quality if successful.

The connection between the Saints captain and Beckham is not difficult to understand. Ward-Pr’s is aggressive in dead-ball situations – much like the former Manchester United star – and the duo are far behind their rivals in terms of all-time Premier League goals from free-kicks.

Beckham is currently leading at 18, but Ward-Prourage is just one man behind and he has many years ahead of him to lead. The Saints academy product has made over 400 appearances for the club and made his debut as a teenager in 2011.

His skilled right-footed and penchant for crosses aren't the only similarities to be drawn between Ward-Prowse and Beckham. The Liverpool target started his career as a winger before drifting into central midfield, just as Beckham did in the years before he retired.

It is true that Ward-Pr’s transition came much earlier than his retired counterpart, and central midfield is where he would head to Liverpool if Klopp can lure him in Anfield.

It remains to be seen exactly who will be given the green light to make set-pieces, with Trent Alexander-Arnold equally formidable on his right foot, although the Reds starlet still has a long way to go. before challenging Ward-Prourage's list of free kicks. A player with top-notch experience like Southampton's trump card, and truly right-footed like Beckham, will certainly be a valuable addition to Klopp's squad once The Saints are certain to drop in price. for sale later this summer.
