According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have beaten Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund to sign young Senegalese Mikayil Faye.
Romano reported the news on Sunday night, explaining that the Catalan side are 'close to signing top defender Mikayil Faye from NK Kustosija' in the Croatian second division with 'a deal done'.
Romano added that the 2004-born talent has been linked with Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, and Barca will believe they have staged a major coup considering Faye as the 'most potential player'.
Of these two European rival clubs, getting the job of Borussia Dortmund is perhaps the most important because of the Germans' knack for picking future stars for very cheap prices and then selling them. for bonuses as we have seen recently with the sale of Erling Haaland to Manchester City and Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid. Similarly in 2017, Barca bought Ousmane Dembele for 105 million euros ($113 million) plus additional terms from BVB, who only paid Rennes 15 million euros ($16 million) for his services. it according to ESPN.
Faye will cost much less as the Blaugrana are believed to have agreed a deal that is close to signing a €5 million ($5.4 million) plus additional fee for the defender.
Director of football Mateu Alemany, who is likely behind the deal, hopes this is a repeat of Pedri - for whom Barca paid a similar amount at Las Palmas in 2019 - but before all by Ronald Araujo.
The Uruguayan came for a whopping 5.2 million euros ($5.6 million) from his native Boston River in 2018 and has since gone on to become one of the best central defenders in the world.
Faye will be looking to repeat his trajectory and will one day team up with the man who is said to be the team's captain for years to come while seeing competition for position from Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen. Furthermore, Faye can also operate at left-back, which should keep La Masia graduate Alejandro Balde on guard if Faye reaches his full potential in the post-Jordi Alba era.
Although he is yet to represent his country at a senior level, Faye is already a regular Senegal U17 player who appears in tournaments like the World Cup.
If he joins Barca this summer, Faye - like Araujo - will likely be sent to the reserve team FC Barcelona Atletic first.
