Medeama's success this year in winning the Ghana Premier League can be attributed to many things. One of the main factors that made the team's victory possible was the work of two masterminds behind the team's success. There were two Effiakuma lads in the squad who, through their resilience, dedication, and commitment, made winning the title feasible.
This is the third time a team from the Western Region has won the prestigious title. Sekondi Eleven wise won it in 1960; Sekondi Hasaacas also won it in 1977; and just recently, Medeama Sporting Club were crowned champions of the Ghana Premier League for the 22/23 season.
There was an influence from the Sekondi Takoradi natives whenever a team from the Western Region won the Ghana Premier League. Some of this influence comes from the zeal and commitment the fans and supporters give the team. The second influence is that there is also a particular local boy on the team. Just like the success of Medeama, it was possible because they had two core players who are from Effiakuma, and they are the bones and spine of the team.
These two formidable Effiakuma boys, Nurudeen Abdulai and Ishmael Hammond, with their intelligence, commitment, and class, have masterminded the success of the elusive Ghana Premier League title since 1977. With the defensive prowess and stability of their no-nonsense, tall, and rocky Nurudeen Abdulai, Medeama SC had the vital stability in their defense to mount the necessary challenge for the title.

Nurudeen was the masterclass in Medeama SC's defense, and his physicality and stature sent strikers running away. The desire and commitment in his eyes when playing made all the difference on the Medeama team. Not only Nurudeen, but also Ishmael Hammond, took every chance that he would be granted. He is very intelligent and creative with the ball and always makes sure to create chances wherever he has the ball. Though he has not been giving the nod to show what he can do, he never disappoints anytime he gives the nod.

It has been decades since Sekondi-Takoradi inhabitants witnessed Ghana Premier League title glory since the teams in the region don't get the financial support, necessary preparation, or motivation to reach higher heights. The problem we face here in the Western region is the lack of financial support for the teams to perform at the highest level.
Anytime a team from the Western region is motivated well, both financially and psychologically, the team goes on and performs well. It happened with Hasaacas and Sekondi Eleven Wise, and they performed incredibly well because they had the best financial and psychological support that propelled them to reach that far.
