Reports linking Moises Caicedo to Manchester United appear to be ruffled at Brighton and Hove Albion, with one of the midfielder's teammates admitting he is "frightened" for his future.
If Alexis Mac Allister's move to Liverpool last week has taught us anything, it's that a long-term contract doesn't necessarily mean a long stay.
Mac Allister has been announced as Liverpool's new No 10 just months after signing a new contract with Brighton. Moises Caicedo, meanwhile, only put pen to paper on his own contract in March, but the Premier League bigwigs still surround him like a wasp on a pint of crisp beer.
Arsenal saw a number of offers rejected in January. The Gunners are preparing to test Brighton's resolve again with a £75m (London World) offer. According to Sky Sports, Manchester United cannot be ruled out either, although Erik ten Hag seems to be prioritizing an attacking 'number eight' with Mason Mount as the main target.
Is Moises Caicedo leaving Brighton?
"Having a player like me, we're all afraid he's going to leave," admits Pervis Estupinan, Caicedo's teammate in Brighton and Ecuador (The Argus).
"If he stays, I will be happy to continue to play alongside him and enjoy his football. If he goes, I wish him all the best because he is a good guy, a good professional. He is a machine.
"If he leaves, we'll be rivals. All I'll ask is that he doesn't kick me because he's so strong!
Caicedo excelled in the FA Cup semi-final between Man United and Brighton at Wembley. Combining stellar possession with a much less underrated passing range, Caicedo would make the ideal backup - and long-term replacement - for Casemiro, who is 10 years his senior. United in famous fashion – or should they be infamous? - pulled out of the deal to sign Caicedo as a teenager for just £4.5m in 2021, The Athletic reports, while still plying his trade in his home country of Ecuador for Independiente del Valle.
Caicedo is currently worth £90 million (The Independent).
“The offers have been received. You see what's on the table and Moises says he wants to move on. That it was the dream of his life; an opportunity that may not return," Caicedo's agent recently said when explaining why Arsenal's transfer failed in January.
“We don't know what will happen tomorrow. Maybe he trained and got injured. We cannot know what will happen. Brighton didn't sell it. They understood the situation and they enjoyed it very much.
