As the 2022/23 European football season comes to an end, the race for tickets to the Champions League is over, revealing which clubs will miss the prestigious tournament next season. While some unexpected names have secured their spots, a number of major league clubs will be absent from the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League. In this article, we take a closer look at eight clubs that failed to qualify, including Chelsea and Liverpool.

The most disappointing Champions League exit was Chelsea. Despite significant investment and management changes, the two-time champions ended up in a sad 12th place in the Premier League. The absence of a place in the Europa League or Conference League marks a significant setback for the London team.

Liverpool fought hard until the penultimate game of the season, but their hopes were dashed when Manchester United beat Chelsea 4-1. The slump in form at the start of the season has proved a price to pay for the Red Devils, who will have to deal with next season's Europa League game.

Juventus

Italian giants Juventus have faced another challenge this season. The club lost 10 points due to capital raising fraud, limiting their maximum total score to 62. As a result, Juventus will miss the Champions League, the tournament they regularly participate in.

Ajax

Despite their strong European roots, Dutch powerhouse Ajax will not feature in next season's Champions League. Finishing third in the Eredivisie, the team failed to meet the minimum qualifying requirements. The departure of manager Erik ten Hag also affected their form.

Lille

Defending French champions Lille will take a step back from the Champions League. Currently in fourth place in Ligue 1, they have secured a spot in a second European tournament. However, their fate of qualifying for the Europa League or Conference League is still undecided.

AS Monaco

AS Monaco, the defending champion of France 2016/17, will not participate in next season's Champions League. Despite previous successes and their status as the only team with Paris Saint-Germain to win the tournament in recent years, Monaco failed to secure a spot in the tournament. However, they reached the final in 2004. Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen participating in this season's Champions League will not return to play. After finishing sixth in the Bundesliga, they missed out on Champions League and Europa League spots. Instead, Leverkusen will join the Conference League, a new league introduced by UEFA.

CP Sports

Sporting CP, the Portuguese team, also suffered the same fate as Bayer Leverkusen. After being knocked out of the Europa League quarter-finals by Juventus, Sporting CP will begin their European campaign next season from the Europa Conference League group stage. The UEFA Champions League 2023/24 will be absent some of European football's biggest names. The failure of Chelsea and Liverpool to qualify highlights the competitiveness of the Premier League. Juventus' exclusion was the result of points being deducted, while the absences of Ajax, Lille, AS Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting CP highlight the challenges these clubs face in their respective leagues. their. As the new season approaches, these clubs will look to recover and aim to return to the Champions League in the future.
