According to 90min, Bernardo Silva has confirmed to Manchester City that he intends to quit the team this summer.
The 28-year-old, who has a contract with City through 2025, was instrumental in assisting Pep Guardiola's team to a historic treble. He put in particularly strong performances in the Champions League, most notably scoring a brace in the convincing 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in their heavyweight semifinal matchup.
Silva's City journey, which began in May 2017 when the Premier League champions decided to pay Monaco upwards of £60m plus performance add-ons, ended with the 1-0 victory over Inter in the Champions League final. This was the 14th trophy of Silva's career.
Silva's future at the club, though, has grown more questionable despite City's sustained success over the past six years.
He acknowledged in August 2022 that he was content at City but had "no idea what's going to happen" in the future despite reports linking him to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese international was later revealed to be one of Barcelona's top transfer targets by 90min in September 2022, and the Catalan giants even had a January inquiry rejected by City.
The club is eager to work with Silva as long as they receive an offer around the £75 million threshold, according to 90min, who understands that Silva has reiterated his wish to depart this summer. Silva previously informed City of his decision to seek a new challenge.
Whether Barcelona has the resources to execute a trade is still up in the air, but 90min is aware that Ligue 1 winners PSG view Silva as a potential excellent replacement for Lionel Messi, who is on his way to Inter Miami.
After months of rumors and back and forth between agents, Messi had appeared to be nearing a fairy-tale return to Camp Nou, but Barca were eventually unable to get their financial affairs in order to make a move feasible.
