Despite the need to trim their overstuffed squad, the Blues appear set for another expensive summer of investment and are reportedly keeping an eye on a Madrid defender's position.

Mauricio Pochettino, the newly appointed Chelsea manager, will want to get to know his team after they drastically failed last season, but he has already asserted his leadership by making a decision over the future of misfit striker Romelu Lukaku.

Additionally, 12 players might leave Stamford Bridge in the forthcoming transfer window, which would provide place for more incoming players.

That might open the door for Chelsea to make an outrageous offer for one of Madrid's more seasoned defenders, who is also desired by Real Sociedad of LaLiga.

Alvaro Odriozola apparently wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after a disappointing season in which his playing time was drastically curtailed.

The 27-year-old, who was formerly with Sociedad, played 92 minutes for Madrid last season in just six appearances in all competitions.

According to Mundo Deportivo, his lack of competitive action has opened the door for a future departure from the European powerhouses, with Chelsea and Real Sociedad vying for his services.

Odriozola's availability has apparently been questioned by Chelsea, and Madrid is anticipated to approve a sale if their asking price is fulfilled.

Sociedad are reportedly considered the favorites to sign the full-back, but the Madrid camp is reportedly determined to prevent their preferred method of performing a free transfer.

After making a name for himself at the La Real academy before being snatched up, Odriozola reportedly informed his present employer that he wanted to go back to the team where he first made his name.

The attack-minded defender cost Ancelotti's team £35 million in 2018, and they would like to recoup part of their initial investment.

The Spanish international, who was formerly a Bundesliga winner with Bayern Munich, has won the Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey while playing in the city.

Mason Mount's transfer to Manchester United, for which there have been rumors of a £55 million deal, may be approved by Chelsea in order to pay for the Madrid star's transfer.
