For the rights to broadcast the forthcoming competition, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand and is scheduled to begin on July 20, the two major British media companies are reportedly close to reaching a Ł7.2-8 million ($9-10 million) arrangement.

Following bids of Ł800,000-Ł8m ($1m-$10m), which Gianni Infantino claimed were unfair, there had been a danger of a television blackout in Europe's Big Five countries—England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France.

The claimed figure would be equivalent to five to six percent of the price paid for Qatar's recent Men's World Cup rights.

According to reports, the BBC and ITV paid a fee closer to Ł159.1 million for the rights to the quadrennial international competition in 2022.

Although no agreement has been reached, Bloomberg reports that sources familiar with the conversations suggest that the plan could allow for deals with other broadcasters, preventing what had previously been threatened as a potential blackout of coverage.

Given the enormous sums paid for the men's tournament, FIFA President Infantino had called earlier proposals from European countries offensive.

Additionally, even if the British broadcasters' proposal is only a small portion of the cost for Qatar 2022, it is nevertheless more expensive than comparable offers from the continent.

Bloomberg reports that some bids have been as low as one or two percent of what was paid to broadcast the men's tournament.

The competition's viewership has increased in recent years, with the final drawing the highest numbers.

Infantino announced the historic accomplishment, which in his opinion reflects a rise in interest in women's football.

He issued a message on Instagram saying, "Delighted to share with the world that FIFA has passed one million tickets sold for this year's FIFA Women's World Cup."

1,032,884 tickets have been sold as of this writing. This means that, with more than a month until the start of the event, we have sold more tickets than were sold for France 2019, putting Australia & New Zealand 2023 on track to become the most popular FIFA Women's World Cup ever.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you there to watch the stars of women's football shine on the world as the momentum grows in the host nations and around the world," she said.
