Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Saudi clubs 'want to have Riyad Mahrez' but for Manchester City to see him leave, any interested team will have to 'pay'.
Mahrez was a key member of City's squad for most of his time at the Etihad. Indeed, since arriving from Leicester City in 2018, he has played 236 games, scored 78 goals and provided 59 assists.
In the Premier League for Man City, he has made more than 30 appearances this season in a single run. He has scored five goals and provided 10 assists in those games this season, helping The Citizens win the title. The striker also featured in the Champions League squad. He played 9 out of 13 games, scoring 3 goals and assisting 2 more, helping Man City win the competition for the first time in history.
In the midst of his fine campaign, Mahrez became the target of Saudi Arabia's Al Ahli. They are apparently ready to offer him around £85m on a two-year contract.
Transfer insider Romano has confirmed that the winger is a target for Saudi Arabian teams. "We have reports from Saudi clubs and that's the reality, they want Riyad Mahrez, but from what I got from Manchester City, they want the money," he said on the Here We podcast. Go.
"It's not that they say to Mahrez, 'Okay, we won the Champions League, you can go', that's not an opinion, so you have to pay."
It is clear that Man City wants to make money from Mahrez. Indeed, he is a marketable asset, having helped him win many trophies with Man City over the past few years.
Besides, he still has two years left on his contract, so that makes perfect sense. Perhaps City are hoping a Saudi side will make a huge offer, especially when it is reported that Al Ahli will hand him a big deal if he has to move there. Romano has not hinted that Pep Guardiola's side won't be willing to sell, so if a big offer is made, it looks like he'll have a chance to leave.
