Glen Johnson sends warning to Mykhailo Mudryk after early struggles at Chelsea
Glen Johnson has issued a warning to Mykhailo Mudryk after his first game at Chelsea.
Chelsea spent almost £90m signing Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January and awarded the Ukraine international an incredible eight-and-a-half-year contract.
While Mudryk has impressed in a Shakhtar shirt and attracted interest from Chelsea's Premier League rivals Arsenal, he has been disappointing at Stamford Bridge and is yet to score in 17 appearances in all competitions. .
Johnson insists Mudryk can still become a 'very dangerous' player for Chelsea, but insists the 23-year-old will not have 'much time' left to prove his worth, especially with Mauricio Pochettino will take over next month.
When asked to evaluate Mudryk's first six months at Chelsea, Johnson told Betfred:
“Overall, I am not very impressed. However, some players sometimes take longer to adapt than others.
“I still believe that Mykhailo has a lot to offer and it looks like he will threaten a lot, but he doesn't do much.
"Once he gets used to the Premier League and what the team needs him for, he certainly has very dangerous qualities."
"I don't think he will have much time to impress at Chelsea so he needs to leave when the new season starts in August."
Mudryk certainly wasn't the only Chelsea player struggling last season as the Blues dropped to 12th in the Premier League.
Thomas Tuchel was in charge at the start of the campaign, but the German strategist - along with his replacement Graham Potter - were both sacked by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly. The Blues have turned to former Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and Southampton manager Pochettino to turn things around at the club, with the Argentinian starting the role in July.
