Paris Saint-Germain and star forward Kylian Mbappe are at odds after the Ligue 1 club called the Frenchman's most recent contract assertion "emphatically untrue."
PSG officials were shocked and confused when Mbappe's decision to forgo his one-year contract extension, which would have extended his agreement till 2024, was revealed in a letter.
Mbappe responded by releasing a statement in which he claimed that PSG had known for almost a year that he had no intention of invoking the contract extension and that he had never entertained such conversations.
PSG has now retaliated against Mbappe, calling the 24-year-old out for telling "emphatic" lies.
It is categorically false to claim that Mbappe's team has not participated in contract renewal discussions, a club representative informed the New York Times.
Now that Mbappe's contract is set to expire in a year, PSG may be compelled to sell the striker this summer in order to prevent him from leaving for nothing at the end of the upcoming season. However, insiders claim that this possibility is not even being thought about yet.
Mbappe, though, has sworn to stay with PSG for the upcoming season and refuted claims that he is trying to arrange a transfer to Real Madrid this summer.
Following the departure of Karim Benzema, Real Madrid is searching for a new striker this summer and was ready to make a move for Harry Kane of Tottenham, with Mbappe being considered as a target for a free transfer in 2024.
Following the public altercation between Mbappe and PSG, their position may have shifted, and the club may now be compelled to explore bids for the superstar in the coming weeks.
The saga is the most recent development in what looks to be a pivotal summer for PSG. While Neymar's representatives investigated the potential of the Brazilian relocating to Saudi Arabia, Lionel Messi's departure to Inter Miami has already been officially announced.
In spite of winning the club's eighth Ligue 1 championship in the previous 11 years, Christophe Galtier was also fired as manager, among other reasons due to his failure to perform in the Champions League.
