Alejandro Garnacho has said that squaring off against Lionel Messi 'doesn't seem genuine.
The 18-year-old has been called up to Argentina's senior squad and is likely to make his senior debut for the world champions during this month's round of international competition. In two friendlies, La Albiceleste plays Australia and Indonesia.
At Manchester United, Garnacho has had a breakout season, establishing himself as one of the league's most promising players.
Before their opening encounter against Australia, Garnacho was questioned in Beijing about what it was like to join the team alongside a national idol like Messi.
"Messi and I haven't talked much. It's incredible that he is now in person after spending my entire life on television. It seems unreal," he stated.
Garnacho has previously acknowledged that rival Cristiano Ronaldo was his idol, despite his excitement to have the chance to play with Messi.
There have also been rumors that Garnacho would return to Spain, the nation he had represented as a young player. He might participate in these future friendly with Argentina while still legally representing La Roja in competitive play, according to FIFA regulations.
The winger, however, has taken action to put an end to these rumors by reiterating his commitment to Argentina going forward.
"I don't have to participate in three games. If I don't start the tour, it doesn't matter because I'm here. "I know I want to play for Argentina, and it will happen," said Garnacho.
"If the coach believes in me, I can continue to play for the Argentine national team and build a career there. I want to compete in the World Cup, the World Cup qualifiers, and the Copa America. I am aware that many people in Argentina adore and value me. I've already taken the decision to represent Argentina, and I'll do it on the field.
