His father, Edward Akufo-Addo, was the third Chief Justice of Ghana and later became the ceremonial President of Ghana from 1969 to 1972. His maternal grandfather, Nana Sir Ofori Atta, was a renowned nationalist and a member of the "Big Six" who fought for Ghana's independence.
Nana Akufo-Addo had his early education at the Government Boys' School and later moved to England for his secondary education at Lancing College. He was also a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 1992, which is now one of Ghana's major political parties.
Nana Akufo-Addo made his first bid for the presidency in 2008 but was narrowly defeated by the incumbent President, John Atta Mills. Undeterred, he ran again in 2012 and faced another defeat, this time against President John Dramani Mahama. However, Akufo-Addo's perseverance paid off, as he finally emerged victorious in the presidential elections held in December 2016.
As President, Nana Akufo-Addo has implemented several initiatives aimed at transforming Ghana's economy and improving the lives of its citizens. His administration has focused on key sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. One of his notable policies is the "Free Senior High School" program, which provides free secondary education to all Ghanaian students, making education more accessible to the youth.
Under his leadership, Ghana has witnessed progress in economic growth and foreign investment. Akufo-Addo has also been proactive in promoting good governance, democracy, and the rule of law in Ghana. He has been a strong advocate for African unity and has played an active role in regional and international affairs.
Nana Akufo-Addo's presidency has not been without challenges, as he has had to tackle issues such as corruption, youth unemployment, and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, his commitment to addressing these challenges and his vision for a prosperous Ghana has earned him both praise and criticism.
