Hold on, people! This summer will bring yet another constant stream of updates on Kylian Mbappe's future.
According to the most recent news out of France, a transfer away from Paris Saint-Germain is unavoidable, but this is not the first time we've seen a similar issue arise in the French capital surrounding their prized superstar.
If Mbappe were to leave the Parc des Princes, Real Madrid, longtime supporters of the Frenchman, would undoubtedly be a contender. To that end, here is a reminder of the Spanish club's past relationship with the French forward.
During the 2016–17 season, Mbappe made his debut for a strong Monaco team that had players like Radamel Falcao, Thomas Lemar, Fabinho, Joao Moutinho, and Bernardo Silva. When he was just 17 years old, the young Frenchman led Monaco to the Ligue 1 championship and the quarterfinals of the elite club competition in Europe with 15 Ligue 1 goals and six in the Champions League.
Mbappe's extraordinary play caught Real Madrid's attention, and there are already rumors that the Spanish club has reached an agreement with Monaco for the forward worth more than €160 million.
However, the French team denied making a deal with Real.
While Real's interest in Mbappe was unquestionably real, PSG sensed a chance to snare the young Parisian from their grip.
PSG moved for Mbappe and made a record-breaking bid to Monaco for the Frenchman's services just three weeks after completing the record-breaking acquisition of Neymar. The French team was also prepared to match Real's reportedly offered salary of €7 million.
At the conclusion of the 2017 summer transfer window, PSG closed the deal out from under Real Madrid's nose, with Mbappe arriving on a temporary loan. However, a buy-option would enable him to remain in his hometown until 2022.
Few people were surprised when Mbappe developed into a superstar at PSG and eventually surpassed Edinson Cavani's scoring record.
