Manchester United will lead the race for Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani completes their Old Trafford takeover.
The move which would shock the world of football has been mooted since February, with El Pais reporting that PSG was ready to sell the French superstar to the Premier League side.
The report claims that people close to PSG's Qatari owners have hinted at a move away from Mbappe.
Despite not committing to a deal, the 24-year-old is "interested" in a move to Old Trafford.
Mbappe has told PSG he does not want to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes beyond 2024, a decision which is said to have angered the club, who will sell him this summer rather than let him leave on a free transfer next year.
The development coincides with a report from the Qatari newspaper Al-Watan, owned by the Sheikh Jassim family, which claims their bid to buy United from the Glazers will be announced soon.
However, sources involved in the trial played down these reports.
El Pais claims PSG have been offered a 'win-win' situation when Mbappe joined this summer for a fee of at least €200m (£171m), while United signed one of the biggest names in world football.
United have yet to confirm who their preferred bidder will be. The Glazers will reportedly make a decision this week.
Sheikh Jassim and INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe are two pioneers.
Mbappe nearly left PSG last summer but then made a last-minute change by turning down a move to Real Madrid to sign a new two-year contract in the French capital.
This deal could be extended for another 12 months but a letter from his warehouse to PSG has informed them that the upcoming 2023/24 season will be his last at the club. Manchester United may seem to have the chance to sign the Mbappe but the player will not be able to make that move as he is much interested in Real Madrid's project.
