The 24-year-old World Cup champion from France is still being linked to a transfer to Real Madrid.
According to sources, Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris St. Germain that he will not sign a one-year contract extension. As a result, he may be sold this summer or be eligible to become a free agency at the end of the 2019–2020 season.
The 24-year-old continues to be linked with a transfer to Real Madrid after signing for the Spanish club for £160 million in 2018, a record deal for a youngster.
Mbappe's decision, which was announced in a formal letter and came after Lionel Messi announced his leaving for Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, reportedly left the PSG administration in a state of shock.
Now it appears that PSG will have to decide whether to sell Mbappe—who notched a hat-trick in France's 2022 World Cup final loss to Argentina—or allow him to depart the organization for free in June 2024.
According to French media reports, PSG was hopeful that Mbappe's contract would be extended.
Real Madrid, though, might now increase their interest in the forward position as they attempt to replace veteran Karim Benzema following his transfer to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
Future plans for Kylian Mbappé are still unknown. The international player for France decided not to exercise his right to extend his contract until 2025. As a result, there are suggestions that the 24-year-old will be sold by the capital club during the summer transfer window.
Mbappé did, however, go on Twitter to say that he is not requesting to leave PSG. The 2018 FIFA World Cup champion clarified the matter in a conversation with Gazzetta dello Sport as well.
According to Mbappé, neither leaving PSG nor joining Real Madrid were things he specifically requested. "I just informed the team that I won't exercise the contract extension option until June 2025. Although a new contract with PSG was never discussed, I'm excited to return for another year.
