Since being penalized for his ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin and forced to sell Chelsea, nothing is known about the location of the Russian billionaire.
According to a recent report from the Mirror, Abramovich is now residing in a residence with a view of the Bosporus Strait in Istanbul's affluent Anadolu Hisari neighborhood.
It is alleged that Abramovich is spending £40,000 a month to reside in a home he is renting from well-known stock market figure Ahmet Okumus.
According to The Mirror, Abramovich is the tenant of the home, as confirmed by the chairman of the Istanbul Real Estate Brokers Club.
The home where Abramovich is rumored to be living was bought by Okumus ten years ago and afterwards acquired for £20 million.
There is some ambiguity around Abramovich's alleged living situation in Istanbul; one Turkish media source reportedly flew a drone close to the residence in December in an effort to see him, but was unsuccessful.
It is also asserted that when questioned about Abramovich by outsiders, neighborhood locals have kept quiet.
But the presence of Russian money in Turkey is nothing new.
A study by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed that more than 16,300 real estate transactions involving Russians were completed in 2022, up from 5,300 in 2021.
The Russian magnate has not been involved in sports since he sold Chelsea, the team he had purchased in 2003.
A couple of days after Russia invaded Ukraine in March of last year, he declared his intention to sell the Premier League team.
Abramovich invested more than £1.5 billion to completely change Chelsea's fortunes, transforming them into a force in both the domestic and European soccer scenes.
In May of last year, an American group led by Todd Boehly purchased the London side for £4.25 billion after being forced to sell due to sanctions levied on him.
Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea, is allegedly hiding out in a £20 million villa in Istanbul that he is paying £40,000 a month to rent.
