Lautaro Martinez is the most appreciated striker in South America in the 2022/2023 season. He was impressive in his performances for Inter Milan, helping his side reach the 2023 UEFA Champions League Final but could not find the net. He also won the World Cup with Argentina but failed to make an impact on his team throughout the tournament.

Messi is the most rated midfielder in South America for the 2022/2023 season. The Argentine striker helped his team win the 2022 World Cup and was named the tournament's Player of the Year. Messi also scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists for PSG to help this team win the Ligue 1 title. The 35-year-old player is among the candidates to win this year's Ballon d'Or.

Neymar was once the most highly rated winger in South America. He performed well for PSG before an injury kept him out for the whole season and was also among the best players at the 2022 World Cup.

Mac Allister and Dybala are the most highly rated central defenders in South America for the 2022/2023 season. Here is the composition of the most highly rated Southern players in the 2022/2023 season

Lautaro Martinez, Raphinha and Neymar are the strikers while Messi, Dybala, Mac Allister and Federico Valverde are the midfielders. Quarta, Thiago Silva, Danilo are defenders while Ledesma are goalkeepers.

Barcelona are said to have agreed to sell French defender Samuel Umtiti to Olympique Lyon, seven years after he arrived from the same team.

According to the Sports Zone (via Sport), Barcelona and Lyon have agreed a €4 million deal for Umtiti this summer, plus a percentage of any future deals. Umtiti spent last season at Lecce on loan, not only to regain his sharpness in Serie A but also to rebuild his reputation after several seasons without playing at Barcelona.

However, Lyon won't pull the trigger until they sell Caston Lukeba. The 20-year-old centre-back is for sale and Lyon are hoping to earn more than 20 million euros for him. They are currently negotiating, but no agreement has been reached yet.

Provided the sale is done, Lyon is expected to approve a move for Umtiti. The 29-year-old was tipped to return to his first club last summer but the deal was dropped due to doubts over his fitness.

Umtiti was hailed as one of the best defenders in Serie A last season and he seems to be starting his career back on track. If Lyon gets a similar version of "Big Sam", then that price seems to be very cheap. Likewise for Barcelona, ??they are hungry for income and now it's time to end a relationship that went sour a while ago.
