Liverpool 'DROP out of the race for long-term target due to Chelsea's £80m asking price'

Reports suggest that Liverpool has decided against pursuing a transfer for Mason Mount during the summer window due to Chelsea's high asking price. The 24-year-old midfielder has long been on Liverpool's radar as they look to revamp their midfield options.

Liverpool has already made their first signing of the summer, acquiring Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35 million. However, manager Jurgen Klopp is still keen on recruiting additional players in midfield. Recent links have connected Borussia Monchengladbach's Manu Kone and Nice's Khephren Thuram with the club.

Liverpool's interest in Mason Mount has cooled off, according to sources. This change is reportedly due to a disparity in valuation between the two clubs. Chelsea is seeking offers in the range of £70 million to £80 million for their two-time Player of the Year, a price that Liverpool deems excessive.

Mount has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with reports suggesting that personal terms have already been agreed upon. However, Manchester United's valuation of the player also falls short of Chelsea's demands, with the club reportedly prepared to offer £50 million for the England international.

If Mount were to leave his boyhood club, it would represent a significant profit for Chelsea. However, given the club's desire to offload several players from their bloated squad, potential suitors have a strong bargaining position in negotiations with Chelsea.

On Chelsea's part, they are reportedly willing to let Mount's contract run down if they do not receive an offer that meets their expectations of his talent.

Mount's current contract is set to expire in 2024, following unsuccessful negotiations between his representatives and Chelsea's co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Mount is currently enjoying an extended holiday in Spain, taking time to relax after a challenging season at Stamford Bridge.

Accompanied by friends and teammates Ben Chilwell and Reece James, Mount made a guest appearance at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona as a guest of Red Bull.
