Georginio Wijnaldum believes Newcastle United is a "really big team" that deserves to succeed.

Since being acquired in late 2021 by a group funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Magpies have undergone a radical transformation.

Newcastle improved under Eddie Howe's guidance from last in the Premier League at the beginning of 2022 to Champions League qualification in less than 18 months.

Prior to joining Liverpool, Wijnaldum played one season with Newcastle in 2015–16. The Netherlands international wishes the best for his former team.

After the Netherlands' Nations League loss to Croatia, the midfielder told reporters, "Really thrilled because Newcastle's a really large team.

"I believe that many people underrate the size of the club."

When I was there, I observed how arduously they worked to get success and the highest possible finish, as well as how fantastic the team's supporters were.

So, in my opinion, they merit it. How they dealt with it throughout time. They have earned the way things are currently, in my opinion.

Regarding his own future, Wijnaldum, who spent the season on loan from Paris Saint-Germain at Roma but broke his tibia at the start of the season, admitted he is undecided about his next step.

"I have no idea [what will occur]. I anticipate that everyone will be surprised, even myself, he stated.

"I can already predict what will happen."

Leighton Clarkson, a midfielder for Liverpool, is about to commit to Aberdeen on a long-term basis.

One of manager Barry Robson's top targets for the summer transfer window was the 21-year-old, who impressed while on loan with the Dons last season and won young player of the year.

According to the PA news agency, the two teams have now agreed on a sum.

With one year left on his contract at Anfield, Clarkson scored six goals and dished out nine assists in 38 games to help the Dons finish third in the Premier League and qualify for the Europa League.
