On the first weekend of the 2023–24 Premier League season, Chelsea will play Liverpool. In his first competitive game as the head coach of the Blues, Mauricio Pochettino will face Jurgen Klopp, ushering in a new era for him and the team.

Pochettino faces a difficult first test against the Reds, but he will undoubtedly relish it as he seeks to send a message to the rest of the Premier League upon his return to England. The teams for Chelsea and Liverpool could be very different from what they are right now by the time they face off on August 13.

The actual opening of the 2023 summer transfer season was on Wednesday, June 14, and there has already been a lot of conjecture around Chelsea and

Many players are of interest to Chelsea, and the club's board is working to give Pochettino the strongest team possible to finish his first season in command at Stamford Bridge. In light of this, football.london examines what Chelsea's ideal team might include for their opening-weekend matchup against Liverpool in west London.

Football.london has learned that the club is considering offers for goalies Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Despite both seeing time in net during the 2018/19 season, neither stood out enough to be selected as the starting goalkeeper.

The club might not be able to sell both this summer, though. Kepa would likely be regarded as the more challenging player.

However, according to football.london, Chelsea is pushing to buy Moises Caicedo from Brighton this summer, and with Arsenal supposedly losing interest, things are a little easier for the Blues. It won't be easy, though, because negotiators from Brighton are renowned for being difficult.

The Blues are still interested in Southampton's Romeo Lavia. Football.london understands that the club closely observed him during the 2017–18 campaign and is now considering making a bid for the promising Belgian in the wake of the Saints' relegation to the Championship.

Mason Mount might still be at Stamford Bridge, although that is uncertain. Chelsea has set a £70 million price tag on England international Mount, who has one year left on his contract, because they are determined to keep him but recognize it may be challenging.
