The club and its supporters are still awaiting word on who has prevailed in what has evolved into a protracted power struggle between British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.
No preferred bidder had been selected as of last night. And according to Mail Sport, if the Glazers decide to sell, it would take another eight to 12 weeks for the "approval process" to be completed before the sale would be formally accepted.
That implies that the Glazers, who are incredibly unpopular with a sizable portion of the club's fanbase, may still officially be in charge when Erik ten Hag's team opens the 2023–24 season against Wolves at Old Trafford on August 14.
There will be an approval and closing process that any winning bidder must go through.
Mail Sport earlier this week reported that Raine, the US merchant bank overseeing the transaction, was finalizing contract specifics with both bidders. Each bid is said to place the value of United at or above £5 billion, but not the £6 billion the Glazers are allegedly looking for.
Although the approval procedure will cause a further delay, a decision is anticipated soon.
