Mauricio Pochettino must step up ahead of a difficult autumn

Chelsea started a new era with a blockbuster home game against Liverpool while Mauricio Pochettino returned to the Premier League.

A new schedule for the season was confirmed on Thursday morning and Pochettino endured a rocky start in England's top flight, with a trip to West Ham following a week later. All eyes will be on the Blues' first meeting with Pochettino's former club Tottenham on November 4 in north London and the second leg at Stamford Bridge on February 24.

Towards the end of October, Chelsea meets Arsenal at home, part of a horror series against the Blues which also includes trips to Spurs, Newcastle, and Manchester United as well as home matches against Brighton and Manchester City. A festive schedule is on good paper, with midweek fixtures against Wolves, Crystal Palace, and Luton, while the season ends at home to Bournemouth on May 19.
