The Gunners will be looking to do better than last season and get off to a good start

Arsenal opens the new Premier League season by hosting Nottingham Forest at lunch and aims to repeat last season's second-place finish.

The Gunners were top of the table for 248 days last season - the longest period in Premier League history without a title - while a late-season collapse saw Manchester City overtake them to secure their fifth title in six years. Mikel Arteta will not rest on his laurels and will once again receive massive support in the transfer market to avoid a similar fate. They meet title challengers City for the first time at home on October 7, while the North London derby against Tottenham is played at the Emirates on September 23 before the second leg takes place on April 27. Their festive run has been rocky, with a trip to Anfield just before Christmas.

Arsenal is also returning to the Champions League for the first time in seven seasons and will have to play top-flight European football from September to December. The season ends at home to Everton, a week after their clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
