Les Ferdinand, the QPR football director, has resigned from his position.

The 56-year-old Ferdinand played for the team for eight years before returning to Loftus Road in 2014, first as the head of football operations.

QPR was demoted from the Premier League in 2015, spending the last eight seasons in the Championship after narrowly avoided it in the previous year.

On the club's official website, Ferdinand stated: "This has not been an easy decision. My life revolves on football, and although I adore the sport and want to continue playing it, I believe that the timing is perfect for me to leave this role.

There have been difficult periods, and I have had to make some extremely difficult decisions, but I have always made decisions with the club's best interests in mind.

After firing Neil Critchley, who held the position for just 12 games, QPR named Gareth Ainsworth as their new head coach in February.

Michael Beale, who led QPR to seventh place in the standings before leaving Loftus Road in November to coach Rangers, was succeeded by Critchley.

Les' sincerity and honesty have always set him apart, making him so exceptional and treasured by the board, said QPR chairman Amit Bhatia. "In an industry where individuals with genuine authenticity and integrity appear to be scarce, Les' sincerity and honesty have always set him apart, " he continued.

The EFL has accused Reading of frequently breaking its financial rules by neglecting to pay its players throughout the 2022–23 season.

The accusations pertain to three different instances in which the team was relegated from the Championship and player pay were not paid on time and in full on each occasion.

Additionally accused of permitting the team to violate the EFL's financial regulations is owner Dai Yongge.

Reading lost six points in April for violating the regulations governing profit and sustainability, which ultimately caused them to place in the bottom three and be demoted to League One.
