Jack Grealish garnered a lot of attention after Manchester City's treble triumph, and he is back in the England camp ahead of Friday's Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta. Gareth Southgate thinks there is "a line" regarding celebrations.
When it comes to the intensity of their treble celebrations, England manager Gareth Southgate has warned Jack Grealish and the rest of his Manchester City teammates that "there is a line."
Last weekend, City won the Champions League to go along with their Premier League and FA Cup triumphs. They celebrated for three days, with Grealish's celebrations garnering a lot of attention on social media.
The City treble winners are back in the England lineup ahead of Friday's Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta, but Southgate warned there must be a limit to how wildly players may rejoice before their obligations for the season are complete.
There is a line, according to Southgate.
Everyone now broadcasts everything to social media, which is different. Some of my nights out I wouldn't have wished to have made public. There would have been a lot more issues for my generation.
But we didn't consider considering the City players for this match in our minds. The players and I have spoken. We have discussed where the focus should be, where we need them to be, and we have acknowledged what they have gone through. I am now in charge of managing it.
"It serves no purpose for me to disclose that publicly. To begin this game, we didn't take those boys into consideration. We still hold out hope that they may contribute in some way.
But because to the tactical planning we knew we needed to conduct earlier in the week, we were aware that they would report on Tuesday night, Wednesday would be a light day, and Thursday would be the regular light session. Therefore, unless there was a problem, we had no intention of including those players in the game.
Along with Grealish, other City players in England's lineup are Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, John Stones, and Kalvin Phillips; none of these players are anticipated to start the match against Malta.
