Enzo Fernandez' father reveals the Chelsea star wants to play a different role under Mauricio Pochettino
The world champion is looking to become 'champion' in his first full season at Chelsea
Enzo Fernandez wants to speak to Mauricio Pochettino about Chelsea's midfield development next season.
The 22-year-old joined the club in January for a transfer fee of around £115 million and impressed in his first few months at Stamford Bridge despite the Blues' general woes. Pochettino is hoping to bar them from Fernandes next season, with his fellow Argentinian expected to play a key role in midfield regardless of Chelsea's summer transfer deal.
After the exit of N'golo Kante from the midfield and Mateo Kovacic also heading his way out from the club, I think Enzo will be the master of the midfield distributing passes and starting the attack which will help move the attack forward.
Moises Caicedo continues to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues seen as favorites to sign the Brighton star while Arsenal are focusing their efforts on securing a deal for Declan Rice.
Fernandes played a key role in midfield under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard and the world champions are still waiting for their first goal in a Chelsea shirt despite starting the second half of the season. That could change under Pochettino, however, as Fernandes' father revealed his son plans to talk to the new Chelsea manager about a slightly different role as he aims to help the club return to the Premier League title race.
"Enzo feels comfortable, happy, and well-adjusted in London," Raul Fernandez told The Chelsea Spot.
"He is delighted with the arrival of Pochettino. Next season? My son wants to be a champion.
“I think [we will see how Enzo plays further]. He will ask [Pochettino] to keep playing going forward."
Although Chelsea will make a purchase of two or more midfielders before the end of the summer transfer Mauricio Pochettino will surely count on Enzo Fernandez to help drive his team forward when they are attacking.
