Sadio Mane left Liverpool last summer to join Bayern Munich. But the transfer did not work out and he is now tipped to return to the Premier League.

A year after leaving Liverpool to join Bayern Munich, Sadio Mane was linked back to the Premier League.

After a promising start to his career at Bayern, Mane suffered an injury in November that kept him out for more than three months and missed the World Cup with Senegal.

And it got worse from there. Upon his return to action, he scored just one goal in his final 15 appearances of the campaign and he was suspended and fined following reports that he punched teammate Leroy Sane.

The spat followed Bayern's 3-0 Champions League loss to Manchester City and added more suffering to a disappointing debut campaign. Since joining the Allianz Arena, Mane, who has been tasked with replacing Robert Lewandowski, has scored just seven goals in the Bundesliga.

Taking until the last day of the campaign to win the title was seen as a disaster for Bayern. And so they're planning a summer reshuffle. As well as Mane, Serge Gnabry has also been linked with a potential transfer.

A report by German magazine Bild earlier this month linked Mane to his dream of returning to Anfield. It was suggested that Bayern would consider reducing the fee for the 31-year-old despite paying Ł35m for his services just a year ago.

While re-signing the striker may be popular with some Red Devils supporters, Jurgen Klopp doesn't seem to think so. The German has replaced his former star by signing Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. Mane, who is second to Karim Benzema in the 2022 Ballon d'Or standings, has also been linked with the Reds' Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Chelsea. There is also information that he has the opportunity to go with Benzema to Saudi Arabia.

Bizarrely, a former British MEP met Mane at an international EITI conference in Senegal. Martin Callanan, a Newcastle native and now a lifelong colleague in the House of Lords, has urged the former Liverpool favorite to join his boyhood club.

“I came to Senegal to speak at the EITI conference,” he wrote on Twitter. “It was an honor to meet Sadio Mane at the hotel. I can't resist recommending him to Newcastle next season. His cryptic answer:

'Never say never!'"
