Manchester City are not resting on their laurels after winning the treble, looking to bring in a perfect centre-back who can complement them

Manchester City are in talks with a defender who could almost complete their squad.

The Citizens recently won a historic treble, winning the Champions League for the first time, along with a third consecutive Premier League title and a second FA Cup under Pep Guardiola - but this squad is not at all. complete in the eyes of the Catalan coach, who has been looking for a left-back since last summer.

Manchester City wanted a very specific type of player, who was either good at defensive situations in a three-man position, or in charge at full-back. Last year, Marc Cucurella almost moved to the Etihad Stadium, choosing to join Chelsea instead. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed talks are "going well" for RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol, who won the World Cup for third-place Croatia.

"Please understand that Manchester City are working on a deal with Josko Gvardiol on the player side," he wrote on Twitter. "Leipzig will only sell Gvardiol for a hefty fee, otherwise they are willing to keep him for one more season."

With a fee of around £100m being touted at some stage of Gvardiol's development, there is a chance City could indeed break their all-time transfer record - currently held by Jack Grealish.

It seems a bit unlikely as Leipzig have never been given nine figures for a player before, but with the East German side willing to keep the Croatian if needed, it could force City to pay nine figures. . Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked with Gvardiol.

City are also in talks with Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic, according to Romano, with 100% personal terms agreed.

Gvardiol is valued at 75 million euros by Transfermarkt.
