Stephen Kenny, the manager of the Republic of Ireland, is not giving up on his team's chances of qualifying for Euro 2024 despite his team suffering a costly loss in Greece.

After losing both of their initial games after Friday night's 2-1 defeat in Athens, Kenny acknowledged that Ireland has "a mountain to climb" if they are to advance out of Group B, but he is still unfazed when Gibraltar visits the Aviva Stadium on Monday night.

He responded, when asked if the work had become nearly impossible, "It's only the second game. We've set a difficult goal for ourselves. We currently only need to prepare for Monday's game against a nearly packed stadium at home, which we must win.

We currently just need to prepare for Monday's game, which will be played at home in front of almost the entire stadium. We must give them a victory, so that's what we need to concentrate on.

After a VAR review, Callum O'Dowda gave Tasos Bakasetas a penalty in the 15th minute for handball, putting Ireland behind. However, before halftime, Nathan Collins scored from Evan Ferguson's flick-on, again after a check.

However, they were caught again only four minutes after the restart when Giorgos Masouras scored, and Matt Doherty's dismissal for pushing Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas during a heated altercation in stoppage time made things even worse for the visitors.

We didn't play as well as we would have liked, according to Kenny. In the first half as a whole, Greece was by far the superior team. They played well and had more control than we would have liked.International teams can experience that away from home, but you need to defend better than we did and persevere—that's what ultimately cost us.Simply said, conceding the second goal was a terrible mistake. Sincerely, I can't believe we disclosed it. It has harmed us. We still had a chance to win the game and could have drew it, but that could have flattered us.
